Transneft Volga Region has completed the revamping of two sections of the Bavly – Kuybyshev oil trunk pipeline (OTP) in the area of responsibility of the Buguruslan Regional Oil Pipeline Directorate. The work was carried out in Pokhvistnevo and Kinel-Cherkassky Districts of Samara Region.
The scheduled repairs were launched in March and were performed in accordance with the technical upgrading, revamping and overhaul programme of Transneft Volga Region’s facilities. The goal was to increase operational reliability of the oil trunk pipeline.
A scheduled replacement of two sections of the line with a total length of 22.97 km was performed. The intersections of two roads and five small watercourses were constructed. To ensure a high level of industrial safety during the revamping, domestic carbon steel electric-welded pipes of a high strength class designed for operation at low temperatures and capable of withstanding an operating pressure of 7.4 MPa were used. The pipes are plant insulated and highly resistant to corrosion.
A stop valve unit was installed, telemetry wells and wells for air escape valve tees were equipped. Tees are used for air venting when filling and withdrawing oil during scheduled repairs. In addition, a new section of a 10 kV route electric power transmission line was laid, electrochemical protection of the sections was provided, and anode beds were installed.
After the construction and installation, the condition of the insulating coating of the revamped sections was checked, hydraulic testing, as well as diagnostics were performed by various methods.
During a scheduled 72-hour shutdown of the Bavly – Kuybyshev OTP, specialists of Transneft Volga Region made a technological connection of the revamped pipeline sections. The works were accomplished in accordance with the plan and within the time limits provided.
Oil transportation via the oil trunk pipeline is currently being carried out under the normal protocol.
