Transneft Volga Region has completed in-line inspection of eleven sections at three oil trunk pipelines and their facilities (OTP) in Samara, Saratov, Volgograd and Rostov Regions. The total length of the diagnosed sections was 1.26 thousand km.
The work was performed for five months as part of the OTP In-line Inspection Programme of Transneft for 2020 without decommissioning the pipelines. The goal was to evaluate the technical condition of the oil trunk pipelines to increase their reliability.
Transneft Volga Region performed in-line inspection of six sections of the Kuybyshev – Tikhoretsk oil trunk pipeline, the Yefimovka – Volgograd Refinery section of the Zhirnovsk – Volgograd oil trunk pipeline and the standby legs of the underwater crossings of the Kuybyshev – Tikhoretsk oil trunk pipeline through the Sandata, Kuberle and Maly Karaman Rivers, as well as the underwater crossing of the Sernye Vody – Krotovka trunk pipeline across the Bolshoy Kinel River.
To inspect the oil trunk pipelines, two types of pipeline inspection gadgets (PIGs) manufactured by Transneft Diascan were used: an ultrasonic testing examination set for detecting randomly oriented defects and a combined magnetic inspection tool. The tools enable multi-angle inspection of both longitudinal and transverse slit-shaped defects and allow to detect corrosion, defects in welds and lamination of the inner surface of pipelines.
If necessary, a schedule for the elimination of defects will be formed based on the inspection results.
