Transneft Volga Region Commissions New Power Supply Systems at Komsomolets and Popovka Pumping Stations

Date of publication: 13 December 2018 Print

Transneft Volga Region has accomplished construction and commissioned upgraded power supply systems at Komsomolets and Popovka modular group pumping stations (MGPS) of Buguruslan Regional Oil Pipeline Directorate (RPD). The works were performed as part of the technical upgrading and overhaul programme implemented by the Company in order to increase reliability of power equipment.

The previous power supply system had been operated for over forty years; it became obsolete and no longer complied with the requirements of Transneft’s regulations and standard design concepts.

The upgrade of the power supply systems was commenced in March 2018. New 10 kV indoor switchgear facilities (IGS-10kV) with modern factory-assembled switchgear (FASG) cells equipped with microprocessor relay protection and automation units were built during the revamping of the power supply system at the MGPS. The indoor switchgear is equipped with modern high-technology equipment, including soft starters for high voltage electric motors. Being designed for soft start of high voltage synchronous and induction electric motors, it reduces the impact of the starting current on power grids and prolongs the service life of the electric motors due to reduced shock startup loads.

Packaged transformer substations were revamped, power grids’ and automation networks’ cables were laid, and equipment of an automated system of electric power technical record-keeping was installed at each MGPS. Oil-filled switches were replaced with vacuum switches, thus allowing for higher reliability of the equipment.

All the equipment installed is of domestic manufacture, designed and produced with due account of current energy efficiency requirements.

The upgraded system will allow for reliable power supply to Komsomolets and Popovka MGPSs, enhanced safety and energy efficiency at the facilities as well as uninterrupted oil transportation along the operated sections of the Nizhnevartovsk – Kurgan – Kuybyshev oil trunk pipeline.
