Transneft Volga Region has completed revamping a section of the supply oil pipeline leading from the Bavly – Kuybyshev oil trunk pipeline (OTP) to Novokuybyshevsk Refinery in Samara Region.
The revamping of the Bavly – Kuybyshev OTP section began in May 2018. Specialists have performed a scheduled replacement of 3.79 km of the pipeline with a 530 mm diameter.
The work included the construction of a new pipeline section and providing crossings over three existing motorways around the town of Novokuybyshevsk. The trenchless method was used at the crossings: first, a protective casing was built using the piercing method, then pipe strings were drawn into the casing. Replaced were crossing sections over a 89-m wide bypass motorway, a 44-m wide motorway between the town of Novokuybyshevsk and Novokuybyshevsk Refinery, and a 20-m wide motorway between the town of Novokuybyshevsk and Novokuybyshevsky custody transfer point. The work also included installation of manholes, air escape valves and electrochemical protection equipment at the oil pipeline section.
Upon completion of the construction works, comprehensive hydraulic tests were performed, along with BGT tool analysis in order to detect pipeline geometry defects, as well as in-line inspection in order to detect defects in the welded connections and the walls of the newly built pipeline.
In October 2018, the employees at Transneft Volga Region performed service connection of the revamped section to the operating Bavly – Kuybyshev oil trunk pipeline. At present, the works have been fully completed and the facility has been commissioned.
The revamping of the supply oil pipeline of the Bavly – Kuybyshev OTP is meant to ensure increased reliability and uninterruptible oil transportation within the oil trunk pipeline system and took place as part of the 2018 technical upgrading, revamping and overhaul programme adopted for Transneft Volga Region facilities.
