Date of publication: 25 July 2018

Transneft Volga Region has completed scheduled operations at the following oil trunk pipelines (OTPs): the Kuibyshev – Unecha-2, Kuibyshev – Lisichansk, Nizhnevartovsk – Kurgan - Kuibyshev and Krasnoarmeysk – Saratov Refinery. The work was performed both at the pipelines and their facilities.

The Nizhnevartovsk – Kurgan - Kuibyshev oil trunk pipeline was shut down for 72 hours, according to the plan, to allow work to be performed at the Nurlino – Samara section. Based on the results of an inspection, professionals of Samara and Buguruslan regional oil pipeline directorates (RPDs) cut out three defective pipeline sections and replaced two gate valves. Simultaneously, they replaced a return valve at Popovka modular package pumping station (MPPS), mounted a main line pump unit at Komsomolets MPPS and performed midlife repairs at Yerzovka MPPS.

A large scope of work was done at Samara-1 oil pumping station (PS) during a scheduled shutdown of the Kuibyshev – Unecha-2 OTP. Professionals of Samara RPD’s Central Maintenance Division (CMD) replaced a 1,000 mm-diameter return valve and installed a main pump unit.

Pursuant to the regulations, three substandard air escape valves were cut out of the Kuibyshev – Lisichansk OTP’s portion lying in the responsibility area of Samara RPD, accompanied by midlife repairs of six gate valves at Samara-2 PS. Hydraulic testing of a pressure manifold and midlife repairs of five gate valves were done at Ternovka-2 PS affiliated with Saratov RPD. Two more gate valves were repaired in a pipeline inspection gadget (PIG) trap at Grachi-2 PS.

During a scheduled 48-hour-long shutdown of the Krasnoarmeysk – Saratov Refinery OTP, specialists of Saratov RPD’s CMD connected a redundant circuit of the oil quantity and quality measuring system (OQQMS) at Saratovsky custody transfer point.

In Volgograd RPD’s responsibility area, scheduled operations were performed at the Kuibyshev – Lisichansk OTP. A section with 17 defects was cut out of the pipe, followed by midlife repairs of four return valves at Krasny Yar line operation dispatcher station (LODS), process disconnection of Astakhovo PS from the OTP system for subsequent mothballing of the facility was performed. A newly constructed PIG trap at the Kuibyshev – Lisichansk OTP was connected to process pipelines of Saratovskaya PS within the prescribed time.

Overall, the repairs engaged 24 teams of repair and operational divisions from all RPDs of Transneft Volga Region. Technical assistance was given by crews from Transneft Central Siberia and Transneft Kama Region.

The scheduled repairs were done under the integrated technical upgrading, revamping and overhaul programme for oil trunk pipeline facilities. The process measures taken will enable to maintain high reliability of Transneft Volga Region’s oil trunk pipelines.

The oil pipelines were put back into operation as scheduled.
