Transneft Volga Region has hooked up a newly built underwater crossing of the Kuibyshev – Tikhoretsk oil trunk pipeline (OTPUWC) over the river Bolshoy Irgiz.
The works were performed by specialists of Saratov Regional Oil Pipeline Directorate (ROPD) on 13-17 February 2018. The hookup of the underwater crossing’s new section to the Kuibyshev – Tikhoretsk OTP was carried out within 96 hours of scheduled works without any slowdown of the oil pumping regime. Crews of the Central Maintenance Division (CMD) of Saratov ROPD carried out the works simultaneously on both river banks.
The construction of the underwater crossing of the Kuibyshev – Tikhoretsk OTP over the river Bolshoy Irgiz was launched by Transneft Volga Region in July 2017. As per the schedule, 140 pipeline joints with the diameter of 820 mm were welded in several months. The total length of the new section is 1,533 m (including a 260 metre syphon and a section in the floodplain part).
Upon the completion of welding works, primary and duplicating checks of the welded joints were conducted as well as “dry pull” inspection and pipeline hydraulic tests. At the stages that followed, the joints were insulated, a trench was dug in the river bed, along with syphon ballasting and lining. The syphon was pulled through the underwater trench in late October 2017.
In 2018, the plan includes dismantling the old section of the underwater crossings of the Kuibyshev – Tikhoretsk OTP over the river Bolshoy Irgiz and rehabilitating the soil on the construction sites.
The purpose of the new underwater crossing of the Kuibyshev – Tikhoretsk OTP over the river Bolshoy Irgiz is to ensure emergency-free operation and environmental safety of the Transneft Volga Region's system of oil trunk pipelines.
